Famed writer was renown for his bisexual exploits in his private life

Somerset Maugham, who wrote "Of Human Bondage," had a voracious sexual appetite for both men and women. His sexual liaisons included many rich and famous of the day, and he was known to participate in naked swim parties, lots of drugs and much more, according to the new book called "The Life of Somerset Maugham" by Selina Hastings.
He was known to have lots of sex, too, and in a time when homosexuality would have landed him in jail, like Oscar Wilde. Maugham was married once and was known to particularly enjoy time with married women.
The playwright entertained celebrity guests that included Charlie Chaplin, Grace Kelly, T.S. Eliot, H.G Wells, Rudyard Kipling, Winston Churchill, Virginia Woolf and Noel Coward who once referred to him as the "Lizard of Oz."
According to an article in the Daily Mail published in London on Saturday, Aug. 29, Maugham had a well-known reputation for being bisexual at a time that it was unheard of, back in 1915. The article said:
* Hanging out and seeking out the local rent boys at the Isle of Capri with his male German lover,
* Frequenting brothels with both men and women in London,
* He fell in love with actress Sue Jones, who spurned him to marry into aristocracy,
* He impregnated Syrie Wellcome, married to the founder of the Burroughs Wellcome pharmaceutical company
* He joined the Red Cross and fell in love with a guy who would be with him for the next 30 years
* He became a British spy and his character and exploits inspired Ian Fleming for his James Bond books
* He bragged about trading a tin of condensed milk for a night with a 12-year-old girl in Siam,
Maugham died in 1967 at the age of 91, never denying anything, never regretting anything. He was an out bisexual, and unashamed about it, but his lifestyle was one of ridicule by the people who knew him, and what little leaked out to the public.
